KARACHI (Dunya News) – Federation Chamber leader and Patron-in-Chief of the United Business Group (UBG), SM Tanveer, has issued a fresh warning to the government, stating that the textile industry is facing a deepening crisis.

In a statement released from Karachi, SM Tanveer said textile exporters were being charged a double advance tax of 2 percent, adding that textile units in Karachi and Lasbela were not being provided new electricity connections. He noted that the industrial tariff, which stood at 10 cents in May 2025, had been increased to 12.6 cents by November 2025.

According to him, industries were receiving bills amounting to trillions of rupees under the RLNG adjustment, while incorrect levy charges were not being rectified despite repeated efforts to correct them.

The UBG Patron-in-Chief further stated that no action was being taken against fraudulent individuals operating under the guise of the EFS scheme. He added that the Federal Board of Revenue was issuing factory owners staged bills of Rs5 million for surveillance camera installations.

SM Tanveer said 100 textile factories had shut down across the country, adding that the decline in textile sector production was a direct outcome of anti-export measures.
