Weekly inflation rises as prices of 14 essential items increase

Pakistan’s weekly inflation rate climbed again, rising 0.73% as prices of 14 essential commodities increased, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Pakistan’s weekly inflation has once again recorded an upward trend, with the Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) showing a 0.73% increase over the previous week.

According to the latest report issued by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the year-on-year weekly inflation rate has now reached 4.32%. During the week under review, prices of 14 essential commodities went up, 12 items became cheaper, while 25 remained stable.

The PBS report revealed that electricity charges increased by 60 paisas per unit, while the domestic LPG cylinder became costlier by Rs113.72.

Among essential kitchen items, the price of moong pulse rose by Rs7.17 per kilogram. The report further stated that a 2.5kg tin of ghee became more expensive by over Rs14 in a single week.

Firewood, sugar, and mutton also saw price increases.

On the other hand, tomatoes became significantly cheaper, recording a decline of Rs54.11 per kilogram. Prices of onions fell by Rs13.66 per kilogram, while potatoes saw a reduction of Rs3.63 per kilogram.

Garlic, wheat flour, chicken, masoor pulse, and mash pulse were also among the items that became cheaper.

Meanwhile, prices of fresh milk, yogurt, bread, gas, petroleum products, and several other essential items remained unchanged during the week.
