US, Mexico announce remediation at Volkswagen plant for worker rights protection
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States and Mexico announced a course of remediation at a Volkswagen opens new tab plant in Mexico where the Mexican government had agreed to review alleged labor rights violations.
Under the course of remediation, the Mexican government will ensure that the company provides full backpay and benefits to some workers and better protect workers' rights to freedom of association and collective bargaining.
The US Trade Representative's office had asked Mexico in late May to review whether workers at the Volkswagen facility in Cuautlancingo, Puebla, were being denied freedom of association and collective bargaining rights.
